Description

The James C. Gaither Junior Fellows program offers approximately 12 one-year fellowships to college graduates. Fellows work as research assistants to Carnegie’s senior scholars. The University of Chicago may nominate 2-3 students to the national competition. To be considered for nomination, all of the following materials must be received by November 29, 2021 at 5:00 PM CST:

  • An essay of one double-spaced page on why you would like to be a junior fellow
  • Academic CV (two pages)
  • Two letters of recommendation (written by faculty or professionals who can best speak about your abilities to succeed as a junior fellow)
  • Unofficial transcript
  • An essay of three double-spaced pages on one of the 2022-2023 topics listed here. These topics are intended to test skills in analysis, logic, and written expression. The essays should be analytical thought pieces, not research papers.
