The James C. Gaither Junior Fellows program offers approximately 15 one-year fellowships to college graduates. Junior Fellows work as research assistants to senior scholars at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. The University of Chicago can nominate 2 candidates for the national competition. To be considered for nomination, all of the following materials must be received by November 25, 2024 at 11:59 PM CT:
- A personal statement (cover letter) of one page or less, double-spaced, on why you would like to be a Junior Fellow.
- An essay of no more than three pages, double-spaced, on one of the 2025-2026 program topics. This essay is intended to test skills in analysis, logic, and written expression. It should be an analytical thought piece, not a research paper.
- Academic CV (1-2 pages)
- Two letters of recommendation (written by faculty or professionals who can best speak to your ability to succeed as a Junior Fellow)
- Unofficial transcript
Late and/or incomplete submissions will NOT be considered.
